God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Ps. 46.1
Truly a wonderful aspect to the Christian life is that our redeeming God is compassionate and caring. In our time of great need, we are forced to trust the Most Trustworthy, we are guided to the Shelter of Shelters and we place our very hope in Him. It is in maintaining fellowship with God that His strength is made manifest through our weakness. How would we glorify Him for His power and might and healing if we never suffered from weakness, sickness and frailty?
We can find comfort today in that God is exceedingly available to assist us in whatever affliction we are facing, whatever anguish we are wrestling with, or in whatever trial we find it difficult to count it all joy. Alexander Maclaren, a preacher from a century ago, stated, “Peace comes not from the absence of trouble, but from the presence of God.” Call upon Him and enjoy fellowship with God, your refuge and strength.
WIN SOULS
With two weeks left to go, Potter’s Field Ministries can look back over their first tour of 2008 and know that God’s hand has been over it the entire time. This current tour through Florida has been a stroll down memory lane, being a sweet reminder to Pastor Michael and Pam of their beginnings. Their schedule for the past two months has been very busy, full of ministry events and churches, sponsorships of Potter’s Field Ranch, and lives being restored to the Lord. He is so gracious!
There have been times of reconnecting with old friends, such as Pastor Keith and Christy Pintar, at Calvary Chapel Jacksonville, as well as many friends in Brandon, Lakeland, and Melbourne. They have been revisiting congregations, seeing the growth of churches at Calvary Chapel Kendall and Grace Family Church, in Port Saint Lucie. Pastor Michael and Pam have also been reliving memories in Pam’s hometown of Thomasville, Georgia, and at Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale. They were both blessed by their time spent with Pastor Bob Coy, and amazed at the growth and blessing of God in each other’s ministries.
With this tour coming to a close they are looking forward to spending the month of April ministering in Montana. May will draw them to the road again in the Northeast and you can view that tour on the Calendar of Events.
FEED THE HUNGRY
The summer of 2008 is already packed full of short-term mission teams headed to El Salvador. This new department within PFR has exploded with interest and we are currently set to host over a dozen churches at our bungalow in San Martin, El Salvador. With all of this support from the Body of Christ, we pray our brothers and sisters in the Lord living in Central America will be blessed by our involvement. As new churches are equipped to host Potter’s Field Kids school programs the need for servants who love children is in demand. Click here to see some recent pictures of the completed bungalow and property.
Our newest staff member, Pastor John Michaels, from Las Vegas, Nevada has come on board to help us put all the pieces together for this international adventure. His extensive ministry work in Southeast Asia has given him much experience that will assist PFR. Pastor John’s church, where he served as Sr. Pastor for 28 years, hosts the annual Send the Message missions conference. They have a great reputation as being a church where Missions “is” the church, not just a “department”. We praise God for adding to our team and look forward to what He will do through all of us as we serve Him here in the U.S.A., and anywhere else He calls.
MAKE DISCIPLES
Well the students of Term 1 of 2008 have been on the move ever since they arrived at Potter’s Field Ranch. Their first weekend, they went snowshoeing on our back property mountain trails. For some, it was a first time experience in snow while others were more familiar with our “white” surroundings. Everybody had a blast!
Reaching out to the community is an aspect of our training, so weekly teams are sent out to complete projects through various forms of service. For example, students, PFR staff, and several volunteers participated in a pro life event sponsored by the Hope Pregnancy Center at a church in Kalispell. In the past couple of weeks, the students have been involved with other various events such as the KALS Ministry Fair in Kalispell. They performed worship, a skit, and one even shared their testimony on stage during the afternoon outreach. The students also shared their outreach program with the residents of The Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Eureka and The Light House Home in Kalispell.
The last week of March, the students will leave for Potter’s Field Ranch Orphanage in San Martin, El Salvador. They will be staying in the bungalow on the orphanage property. Their curriculum will include studying the book of Acts with Pastor John Michaels, as well as performing a drama at Calvary Chapel San Martin as an outreach for the surrounding community. They will also be helping with the after school program that takes place on the orphanage property.
MEET
Jose Angel! He was born in 1998 on December 26th in Sesuntepeque, El Salvador. Jose, along with his brother Marcos, came to Potter’s Field Ranch Orphanage in January of 2007, shortly after their mother passed away from cancer. Since then he has grown not only physically, but also in the Lord. He studies the Word daily, loves reading about Samson particularly, and desires to be a pastor some day. Jose is a very active boy, and like the others, he enjoys soccer as well as other outdoor games. He’s constantly playing with his toy cars and the dogs that live on the property. There is no fear in Jose when it comes to animals, in fact, his favorite is the lion! At school, Jose excels in math and his favorite subject is art. But out of all the places he goes and things he does, his favorite is just being home with his family because he says that is where he receives lots of love!
